Dortmund Set To Offer Pulisic New Contract
According to the Liverpool Echo, Borussia Dortmund are set to offer Christian Pulisic a new long contract to ward off interest from Liverpool.
Pulisic, who was reported to have been subject of a failed £11m Liverpool bid during the last transfer window, has three years left on his current contract.
Jurgen Klopp is known to be a huge admirer of the 18 year old USA international and is keen to bring the talented winger to Liverpool. Pulisic joined Dortmund’s Academy in January 2015 when Klopp was still manager.
The 18 year old is primarily a right winger but can play in centre midfield or as a left winger and is the type of dynamic midfielder who would fit into Klopp’s style of play due to his versatility across the midfield.
He is a regular in the Dortmund side having played 12 games in all competitions this season so far and has contributed 2 goals and 4 assists. He also has 8 senior international appearances for the USA since march of this year, scoring 3 goals in that time.
Liverpool are short on right wingers at the club and with Sadio Mane due to miss four games in January and February due to the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and the long term injury to Danny Ings, filling the void has become more urgent.
Pulisic signing a new contract doesn’t mean that Liverpool can’t bid for the player in January. We all know that new contracts mean improved terms for the player but they also ensure that clubs can insert better terms for themselves for any future transfer.
Borussia Dortmund’s Sporting Director. Michael Zorc has said that they have no intention of selling Pulisic and are about to offer him an improved contract.
Zorc told Sports Illustrated, “There have been some offers for him in the summer window from England and from German clubs, but we would like to have him here and develop him here.”
“We did not educate him to sell him. We have a long-running contract until 2019, but because of his development the club is ready to speak to him to prolong his contract at any time.”
