  1. Sadio Mane 3 Match Ban Upheld By FA

Sadio Mane will serve the full 3 match ban for getting a straight red card against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Guinean was given a straight red card for a high foot which resulting in an injury to Manchester City goalkeeper, Edison resulting in his substitution for a facial injury which required stitches.

Liverpool appealed the punishment which is automatically applied to a player receiving a straight red card on the grounds that it was “excessive punishment”

The FA met today to consider the appeal and decided to uphold the 3 match ban.

Mane will now miss the Premier League matches at home to Burnley and away to Leicester City as well as the League Cup game also away to Leicester City.

The ban only applies to domestic competitions and Mane is free to play in Liverpool’s opening Champions League group stage fixture against Sevilla at Anfield tomorrow evening.

Mane will return for the away league fixture against Newcastle on Sunday October 1st.

  2. Liverpool To Appeal Sadio Mane Ban

Liverpool have appealed the 3 match ban handed down to Sadio Mane following the red card he received for a coming together with Man City’s goalkeeper, Ederson during the Premier League clash at the Etihad on Saturday.

Mane received the straight red from referee Jonathan Moss for what he deemed a dangerous challenge as Mane’s boot was raised resulting in the Man City goalkeeper receiving facial injuries from Mane’s studs.

Liverpool claim that the standard 3 match ban is excessive punishment as the Guinean did not intentionally cause the collision as he had his eye on the ball.

Klopp told Sky Sports: “The whole game was the red card. I don’t think it’s a red card, he doesn’t see him. I have seen the goalie already and it’s not that bad and it’s an accident. It’s unlucky, really unlucky to play against City with 10 men.”

“It was unlucky, it was an accident. The goalkeeper comes out, Sadio wants the ball. To get a red card in a game like this is really unlucky.”

The incident has sparked massive debate as to whether Mane should have received the straight  red card or just a yellow with pundits and fans alike.

The situation was made even more confusing as Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie only received a yellow card for an identical tackle on Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

    Ederson

Ederson posted this image of his injuries after the match on Saturday

The appeal will be heard this morning and if successful could see the ban reduced to one or two matches instead of the 3 matches currently applied.

Should the ban be upheld, Mane will miss the games at home to Burnley and away to Leicester in the league as well as the away tie to Leicester in the League Cup.

He will however be eligible to line up at Anfield on Wednesday night in Liverpool’s Champions League tie against Sevilla as the ban only applies to domestic competitions.
